Recently the Cherryhill Township Fire Company partnered with Penns Manor Elementary Principal Kristen Zeglen and 5th grade teacher Kaitlyn Sarnovsky for interested students to construct and submit essays for the Western Pennsylvania Firefighters Association fire prevention essay contest.
As the primary first due fire company for Penns Manor, essays were submitted to Cherryhill Township. Essays were then sorted by residency and transferred to the first due primary fire company of the student. In addition to Cherryhill this included Western Pennsylvania Firefighters Association member departments Clymer and Commodore. Each company evaluated their entries and submitted their selected essays to the Association.
At an association banquet March 15 recognized during the awards program included 1st - Zachary Long (Clymer), 2nd - Emma Hildebrand (Cherryhill), 3rd - Harper Putt (Cherryhill), Honorable Mentions, Madeline Coy (Cherryhill) and Landon Dolges (Commodore).
All the participating fire companies are proud of all the students who participated in the essay contest. All entries were well written and included various ways we can prevent fires. We also appreciate Mrs. Zeglen and Mrs. Sarnovsky for encouraging student participation regarding an important learning activity. |
